Getting From MSP to River Falls and Freeman House

One of the pleasant surprises about staying at Freeman House is that, although it feels like a true Wisconsin getaway, it is still very manageable from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.

On my most recent trip, I timed it from touchdown at MSP to pulling into the driveway at Freeman House in River Falls. The result: 1 hour and 19 minutes.

That was a best-case run. I had no checked bag, moved quickly through the airport, and my car was waiting right away at the pickup zone. For most guests, a more realistic planning number is closer to 1 hour and 45 minutes from landing to arrival, especially if you are waiting for luggage, traveling at a busier time of day, or coordinating with a ride-share driver.

The drive itself is straightforward. From MSP, you head east through the Twin Cities metro area and then out toward River Falls. Once you leave the airport traffic behind, the trip settles into an easy route, with the final stretch bringing you into a quieter, small-town Wisconsin rhythm.

For guests using a ride-share service, pickup is simple from the airport’s designated zones. On this trip, the ride-share estimate from MSP to Freeman House was in the neighborhood of $75-$80 for a standard or priority ride, though pricing will vary based on demand, timing, weather, and vehicle type.

A few planning tips:

  • If you are not checking a bag, Freeman House can be just over an hour from touchdown in ideal conditions.

  • If you are checking luggage, arriving during peak travel windows, or landing in winter weather, plan on about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

  • Ride-share works well, but availability and pricing can fluctuate.

  • Renting a car may be useful if you plan to explore River Falls, nearby parks, restaurants, or the surrounding area during your stay.

The takeaway: Freeman House is close enough to MSP to be convenient, but far enough away that you feel like you have actually arrived somewhere different. With a smooth airport exit, you can go from plane seat to front driveway in well under two hours, and sometimes, when everything lines up just right, in about an hour and twenty minutes.
