A Scenic Walk from Freeman House Along the Kinni | Easy 4.6miles - GPX Download

One of the best parts of staying at Freeman House is how easily you can step out the front door and into one of River Falls’ most beautiful natural experiences.

This 4.6-mile out-and-back walk takes you from the house, through downtown, and along the Kinnickinnic River (“the Kinni”), blending small-town charm with peaceful river scenery.

The Route

Starting at Freeman House, you’ll head toward downtown River Falls—just a short, easy walk. From there, the route naturally transitions toward the river, where the landscape opens up into wooded trails, bridges, and flowing water.

Along the way, you’ll cross scenic pedestrian bridges and follow paths that trace the river’s edge. The sound of the water and the quiet of the trees make it easy to forget how close you still are to town.

A Perfect Midpoint: Glen Park

About 1/3 of the way through your walk, you’ll reach Glen Park—an ideal place to pause and reset.

There’s a park building with restrooms and drinking water, which makes this route especially convenient for a relaxed, unhurried outing. Whether you stop for a few minutes or take a longer break, it’s a natural turning point before heading back.

What You’ll See

This walk offers a little bit of everything:

  • Historic downtown River Falls

  • The Kinnickinnic River flowing through wooded corridors

  • Pedestrian bridges with elevated river views

  • Quiet trail sections with minimal traffic

  • Wildlife, possibly even a snapping turtle

  • A small dam area where the river’s energy is on full display

In warmer months, the greenery fills in and the river becomes even more vibrant. In cooler seasons, the open views and quiet atmosphere give the walk a completely different, peaceful character.
